LOCATION: Century City, California.
COMPENSATION: $25-$30: Commensurate with your experience and skill set (Negotiable); Health benefits (general, vision and dental); Retirement benefits and parking for full time employees.
HOURS: 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Mon-Fri). Some overtime available (based on work needs).
REQUIREMENTS: At least two (2) years prior work experience at a litigation law firm is required. General knowledge of the litigation process (from the filing of a complaint through trial). Must be detail oriented, able to follow instruction, and able to multi-task. You must be experienced with Microsoft Word, and Adobe.
JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES: Litigation secretary. Draft discovery/pleading shells; Calendar hearing dates; Calendar pleading/discovery deadlines; File pleadings with State and District Courts (paper and electronic filings); Process and serve subpoenas; Some administrative/phone duties.
Primary duties include:
- Scheduling court appearances & depositions
- Drafting of letters, email correspondence and pleadings
- Creating and maintaining files and indexes
- Maintaining attorneys’ calendars of appointments as well as reminders
- Telephone correspondence with opposing counsel and court clerks
- Preparing/Serving/Filing pleadings for filing with the court (State & Federal)
- Preparing and service of discovery (State & Federal)
- Processing/Handling incoming subpoenas, and obtaining medical records
- Scanning documents to maintain electronic version of file
- Preparing attorney-client contracts
- Emailing and calling clients to obtain or provide information
- Anticipating next steps relative to case and documents that need to be prepared
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Associate Arts Degree (“AA”) or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Independent resourcefulness and problem-solving capabilities
- Strong organizational skills
- Proficiency with drafting and editing correspondence
- Strong communicator with professional and pleasant phone skills
- Computer competency and knowledge of Adobe Pro, WordPerfect, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
- Certified Paralegal and/or Notary Public is a plus
