Nurse Assistant Training Program - Program Director Job Description
Job Summary: The Nurse Assistant Training Program (NATP) Director is responsible for the overall administration, management, and supervision of the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) training program. This role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, oversees curriculum development, manages instructional staff, and maintains the quality and integrity of the training program.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Administration:
- Develop and implement administrative and management policies to govern the NATP, ensuring adherence to Title 22 California Code of Regulations (CCR) §71828.
- Create and maintain job descriptions detailing qualifications, duties, responsibilities, and limitations for the licensed nurse Program Director and Instructors.
- Develop and maintain an organizational chart showing the person in charge of the program, lines of authority, responsibility, communication, staff assignments, and schedules.
**Instructor Oversight:**
- Monitor and evaluate Instructors to ensure compliance with program policies and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and utilize an Instructor monitoring checklist to assess performance during theory and clinical instruction.
**Student Management:**
- Ensure the ratio of students to Instructor(s) for clinical training does not exceed 15:1, as mandated by 22 CCR §71828(b)(4).
- Establish and enforce policies on student absenteeism and makeup classes in accordance with 22 CCR §71828(b)(5).
**Curriculum Development:**
- Oversee the development and implementation of the NATP curriculum, ensuring it meets state and federal guidelines.
- Ensure that lesson plans, training schedules, and instructional materials are current and effective.
**Regulatory Compliance:**
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal regulations related to nurse assistant training programs.
- Ensure the program operates in compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.
**Quality Assurance:**
- Conduct regular reviews of program policies and procedures, making revisions as necessary to maintain program quality and compliance.
- Prepare for and participate in audits or reviews conducted by regulatory agencies.
Qualifications:
**Licensure:**
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
**Experience:**
- Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience.
- At least one (1) year of experience providing care to chronically ill or elderly patients in settings such as acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities, home care, hospice care, or other long-term care settings.
- One (1) year of experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in nursing; or completion of 24 hours of continuing education in these areas.
**Skills:**
- Strong leadership and organizational abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in curriculum development and instructional methodologies.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing nurse assistant training programs.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Capability to lift and move training materials and equipment, up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and instructional tools.
- Visual and auditory ability to observe and assess student performance and instructional effectiveness.
