Southern California News Group (SCNG) is looking for a Local Government Reporter to cover the dynamic cities of Torrance and Carson for The Daily Breeze. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced journalist to report on key issues like housing, environmental concerns, schools, and growth, delivering swift and accurate news, along with impactful enterprise stories, in a competitive market.
What you will do:
Cover local government news in the cities of Torrance and Carson
Report on issues such as the state's housing crisis, housing density, protection of historic homes, environmental concerns, quality schools, and growth
Post news swiftly and accurately
Produce polished, focused enterprise that makes a difference
Deliver timely breaking news in a competitive market
Cultivate sources in person and via social media
Operate virtually in the field and fully connect with the community
What you will bring:
Three to four years of reporting experience desired, but we will consider experienced reporters with demonstrated abilities
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in journalism or a related field
Strong news judgment
Excellent writing and reporting skills, including knowledge of AP style
Strong understanding of social media
Basic photo and/or video skills (appreciated)
A self-starter mentality
Benefits and Compensation:
The hourly range is $24.04 - $28.85. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility).
