Position Summary:
The Controls Trainer is responsible for developing and delivering technical training programs for building automation systems. This role ensures that internal teams, contractors, engineers, and owners receive comprehensive instruction on control system design, programming, and operational best practices. The Controls Trainer plays a vital role in elevating technical knowledge across regions and ensuring consistent training standards aligned with Sigler’s goals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deliver engaging training courses on building automation and HVAC control systems—both in-person and virtually.
- Utilize hands-on training kits and remote instruction tools (Zoom, Teams, etc.) to facilitate instruction.
- Maintain and update course curriculum, training materials, and documentation to reflect current technologies and control strategies.
- Provide training and mentorship for internal employees, and external stakeholders such as contractors, mechanical engineers and owners.
- Support internal and external certification efforts by administering training assessments and tracking performance.
- Represent the training department at industry events, technical seminars, and factory meetings.
- Assist in developing technical papers, application notes, and visual aids to enhance learner comprehension.
- Coordinate logistics including scheduling, enrollment, equipment setup, and customer communication.
- Collaborate with factory teams to ensure accuracy and relevance of content.
- Assist management in the creation of department standards, application notes, technical papers, and training documentation
- Other duties as assigned by management to ensure department success
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Generate controls proposals that include detailed scope of work
- Create sequences of operation, select bill of materials, design network layouts and produce electrical schematics
Critical Knowledge and Skills:
- Highly skilled at reading architectural, mechanical and electrical plans
- Complete understanding of mechanical systems and basic electrical knowledge
- Experience with installing, programming, and commissioning HVAC controllers
- Comprehensive understanding of construction documentation, procedures, and construction processes
- Expert at using drafting software applications
- Outstanding ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment
- Expert-level proficiency building automation systems.
- Strong instructional design and curriculum development skills.
- Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to simplify complex technical content for diverse audiences.
- Competence in remote support and digital training platforms.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and LMS platforms.
- Excellent judgment, planning, and multi-tasking skills
Education and Experience:
- AA/AS degree w/10+ years related experience in the HVAC industry or
- BA/BS degree w/5+ years related experience in the HVAC industry
- Experience as a presenter at technical seminars or industry events is a plus
