Job Summary:
The Backhoe Operator will be a vital part of our field crew, operating heavy machinery to perform excavation, trenching, and grading tasks for new and existing plumbing and utility projects. The primary responsibilities include digging trenches for water, sewer, and gas line installation and repair, as well as accessing and exposing underground pipes for our plumbing technicians. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety and a proven track record of operating heavy equipment with precision.
Responsibilities:
Operate a backhoe and other heavy equipment (such as excavators and skid steers) safely and efficiently for various plumbing and utility projects.
Dig trenches to precise depths and specifications for the installation, repair, and replacement of water and sewer lines.
Work closely with plumbing technicians to access and expose underground pipes while minimizing disruption to the property.
Perform grading and earthmoving tasks as needed on job sites.
Follow all safety protocols and regulations, including those for trenching and shoring.
Conduct daily pre-operation inspections of equipment and report any maintenance needs.
Use utility locating equipment to identify and avoid underground utilities.
Assist with other general labor tasks on the job site as required.
Communicate effectively with the crew and project managers to ensure projects are completed on time and to a high standard.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Backhoe Operator, with a strong background in plumbing, utility, or general construction excavation.
Expertise in operating backhoes and related heavy equipment.
Solid understanding of safety procedures and regulations for excavation and trenching.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project plans.
Possession of a valid driver's license; a CDL is a plus.
Physically able to perform manual labor and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to work well as part of a team.
