Mechanical Engineer
Summary
A mechanical engineer in switchgear manufacturing is responsible for designing and developing the mechanical components and systems within switchgear units, including enclosures, busbars, mounting structures, and interfaces, ensuring they meet industry standards and customer requirements, and seamlessly integrate with the electrical systems, often collaborating with electrical design engineers to create a functional and safe product; their duties include creating detailed mechanical drawings, 3D models, bills of materials, and technical documentation while adhering to regulations like ANSI, IEEE, and UL.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Create mechanical designs for switchgear components like enclosures, busbars, mounting structures, and circuit breaker mounting points.
- Analyze customer specifications and translate them into detailed mechanical designs.
- Develop 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using CAD software.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards and safety regulations (ANSI, IEEE, UL, NEMA).
- Create mechanical designs for switchgear components like enclosures, busbars, mounting structures, and circuit breaker mounting points.

- Develop 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using CAD software.

- Creates, assembles, and parts Bill of Materials utilizing the company ERP system.
- Maintain Bills of Material in ERP System.
- Meet production deadlines.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor)
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including sheet metal fabrication.
- Knowledge of electrical engineering basics and switchgear components.
- Familiarity with industry standards like ANSI, IEEE, UL, and NEMA
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- 2-5 years of experience working in engineering.
- Firm grasp of engineering concepts, and experience designing mechanical systems and products.
- Excellent math skills: ability to apply advanced mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems
- Experience using CAD software such as AutoCAD, or similar software.
- Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
